Position Overview:

BWXT is currently seeking a Materials Engineer to join our Advanced Technologies division. This role is pivotal in supporting various nuclear development initiatives within our research and development organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify suitable materials for specific applications based on performance criteria and manufacturing readiness.
  • Assess material performance in design-representative environments and recommend confirmatory testing to validate expected outcomes.
  • Assist in supplier evaluations and the formulation of material specifications.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of material properties to support design efforts.
  • Collaborate with nuclear, mechanical, and electrical engineers on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Work with testing teams to execute material testing campaigns.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Materials, Mechanical, or a related field) is required.
  • Strong expertise in materials science, particularly in the processing, structure, and performance of ceramic materials.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory, with no dual citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance as required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with the performance of ceramics, metals, or composites in high-temperature applications.
  • Knowledge of material degradation in corrosive, irradiative, or thermal environments.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is competitive and will be determined based on local market factors and the candidate's qualifications.
