About the Role:
BWX Technologies is seeking a highly skilled and experienced System Designer to join our Advanced Technologies team in Lynchburg, VA. As a System Designer, you will play a critical role in designing and developing innovative nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and create parts drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials transitioning from design concept to preparation of fully engineered and professionally presentable drawing packages and specifications.
- Create piping and instrumentation (P&ID) drawings.
- Create process flow diagram (PFD) drawings.
- Create electrical schematic drawings.
- Work redlined drawings and part lists.
- Prepare packages of drawings and associated documentation in accordance with approved standards, policies, and procedures.
- Prepare procurement packages to send to manufacturing.
- Work with data management tools Solidworks PDM to organize and manage project data.
- Assist with prototyping activities and advice on corrective action to resolve design problems.
- Work closely with engineering, purchasing, production, and other teams to ensure design work meets requirements.
- Evaluate and suggest improvements to product designs.
- Ensure technical quality and accuracy of project work.
Requirements:
- A High School diploma is required.
- Must possess at least ten (10) years of relevant experience. A degree may substitute for some experience.
- Must have experience with SolidWorks, Product Data Management (PDM) systems, and P&ID.
- Must have superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge of standard drafting policies and manufacturing processes including product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials is required.
- Knowledge of project engineering activities (task plans, schedules, etc.) is required.
- Must be able to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations.
- Must be a strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with SMAP and AutoPipe.
- Proficient in AutoCAD P&ID.
- Proficient in Siemens NX.
- Proficient in ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) Standard.
- 2-year associates degree in engineering technology or drafting.
- Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software experience.
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine experience.
- Coordinate-Measuring Machine (CMM) experience.
