Job Summary

The University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Facility Admissions Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our Patient Access department, you will be responsible for ensuring a seamless and efficient patient registration process, while providing exceptional customer service to our patients and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing a warm and welcoming experience.
  • Collect and verify patient and insurance demographics, ensuring accurate and timely registration.
  • Verify insurance benefits and coverage, providing cost estimates and securing pre-certifications as needed.
  • Collect co-pays and deposits, and provide financial assistance to patients as required.
  • Provide wayfinding and registration assistance to patients, ensuring they are navigated to their appointments efficiently.
  • Maintain regulatory and functional knowledge of registration information, ensuring timely and accurate reporting and billing.
  • Communicate with patients and staff to resolve coverage issues and ensure accurate paperwork completion.
  • Collaborate with the Care Management team and Social Work departments to ensure required information is obtained for reimbursement.
  • Assist with training new staff members and maintain department scheduling templates.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of health insurance principles and practices.
  • Current knowledge of payer requirements for referrals and preauthorization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to technical upgrades and changes throughout the hospital system.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in executing work tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with various personalities.
  • Experience in an administrative position in a healthcare setting is preferred.
