Position Overview:

We are looking for a Research Scientist / Research Engineer to be part of our Pretraining team, focusing on the advancement of next-generation large language models. This position offers the opportunity to engage in pioneering research while applying practical engineering solutions, contributing to the creation of reliable, controllable, and trustworthy AI systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct innovative research and implement solutions in model architecture, algorithms, data processing, and optimization techniques.
  • Lead independent research initiatives while collaborating with colleagues on broader projects.
  • Design, execute, and evaluate scientific experiments to enhance our comprehension of large language models.
  • Optimize and scale our training infrastructure to boost efficiency and dependability.
  • Enhance development tools to improve team productivity.
  • Contribute across the entire stack, from low-level optimizations to high-level model architecture.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
  • Proficient software engineering skills with a history of developing complex systems.
  • Expertise in Python and familiarity with deep learning frameworks, preferably PyTorch.
  • Understanding of large-scale machine learning, especially concerning language models.
  • Ability to balance research aspirations with practical engineering realities.
  • Strong analytical skills and a results-driven approach.
  • Excellent communication abilities and a collaborative mindset.
  • Commitment to considering the societal implications of your work.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with high-performance, large-scale machine learning systems.
  • Knowledge of GPUs, Kubernetes, and operating system internals.
  • Background in language modeling utilizing transformer architectures.
  • Familiarity with reinforcement learning methodologies.
  • Experience with large-scale ETL processes.
