About the Role

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a skilled Telephone Operator to join our team. As a key member of our customer service team, you will be responsible for answering phone calls, routing and directing calls as necessary, and providing exceptional customer service to our patients and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Answer hospital incoming calls within 3 rings and consistently determine the best extension or department to connect with the caller.
  • Use proper questioning techniques to ensure accurate information is gathered from callers, visitors, and patients.
  • Contact hospital personnel as requested through the paging system and consistently use the paging system accurately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of On-Call scheduling and handle calls for physician's on-call according to established procedure.
  • Keep accurate records and documentation, including logs, to maintain a high level of productivity.
  • Familiarize yourself with Medical Center procedures and medical terminology to facilitate callers to the appropriate location.
  • Provide accurate information regarding patient location, visiting hours, and organizational information.
  • Keep callers informed about the status of their call and take initiative to open lines of communication when necessary.
  • Operate a data-linked multi-position PBX console automated system and demonstrate understanding of PBX console features.
  • Provide directory information for internal and external callers through the computer system.
  • Respond immediately to all emergencies and alarms, following established procedures.
  • Perform other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
