Role Overview: The primary responsibility of an Automotive OBD Certification Engineer is to assess and validate the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) systems within automotive powertrains. This role involves establishing a structured approach for formal OBD Certification testing and software validation, ensuring long-term execution of these processes. Additionally, the engineer will engage in various OBD and powertrain testing and validation tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement processes for extensive Certification testing projects related to emissions and OBD.
  • Validate both released and upcoming software for light-duty gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles in the U.S. market.
  • Design and execute tests on gasoline or diesel powertrains focusing on combustion and emissions control/OBD.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of identified issues and collaborate on countermeasures within a team environment.
  • Coordinate emissions or OBD testing activities and manage overall validation projects.
  • Analyze testing results and generate reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluate certification-related software modifications and prepare reports for relevant parties.
  • Present findings and results to senior management and key stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented with strong project management capabilities.
  • Experience with light-duty gasoline and diesel engine control units, particularly Bosch systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of CARB OBD2 regulations.
  • Background in OBD2 monitor development and testing.
  • Solid understanding of emissions regulations for light-duty gasoline and diesel vehicles.
  • Proficient in data acquisition and development tools such as INCA, MATLAB, and Python.
  • Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation for a diverse audience.
  • Bachelor's degree or 3-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Project Management: Proficient in managing projects from inception to completion, with a focus on key performance indicators and effective reporting.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues, developing effective solutions.
  • Organizational Skills: Capable of coordinating workflows within the TechCenter and with external partners.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • General automotive knowledge and a keen interest in the specific responsibilities of this role.
  • A minimum of a four-year degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience in vehicle development validation is advantageous.
