Position Overview:

The City of Long Beach is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Structural Engineer. This position involves the provision of professional engineering services, including the design and evaluation of structural systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed reviews and assessments of engineering plans and specifications to ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations.
  • Provide expert guidance and advisory services to structural engineering staff and collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineering professionals.
  • Perform complex structural calculations and design evaluations, applying advanced engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Engage in field inspections and coordinate with inspection teams to ensure adherence to approved plans during construction.
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports, including special studies and technical charts for review and inspection purposes.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a current registration as a Civil Engineer (PE) and Structural Engineer (SE) in the State of California. Additionally, a minimum of four years of relevant experience in structural and civil engineering projects is required.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficiency in seismic design and evaluation methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate engineering designs and specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.

Desirable Qualifications:

Advanced degrees in Civil or Structural Engineering, familiarity with drafting and structural analysis software, and relevant certifications are considered advantageous.
