Job Summary

The George Eastman Museum is seeking a seasoned Senior Manager to lead its human resources functions. This newly created position requires a working leader who can shape and refine talent acquisition, retention, professional development, and training.

Talent Acquisition

The successful candidate will develop and execute effective strategies to identify, recruit, develop, integrate, and retain top talent across the museum. This includes cultivating a compelling museum culture, ensuring effective onboarding and offboarding experiences, and researching industry trends and resources to identify top talent.

The Senior Manager will review and create job descriptions, determine FLSA status, and work with the Museum Director and VPFO to identify pay ranges for transparency and compliance. They will also assist department managers in the recruitment process, prepare offer letters and new hire packages, and conduct and interpret references checks.

Compliance

The Senior Manager will ensure all HR policies, procedures, and practices are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This includes developing, maintaining, and implementing appropriate policies, updating and maintaining the employee handbook, and providing communication, clarification, and training to museum leadership and employees.

Benefit Administration

The Senior Manager will administer and manage all health, welfare, and retirement programs, including annual review of plans, premium costs, and day-to-day maintenance of each program. They will also act as the primary liaison and administrator with various benefit providers and retirement plan external auditors.

Training & Development

The Senior Manager will collaborate with department managers to understand skills and competencies required, research and recommend training alternatives to address needs, and coordinate and ensure effective delivery of training initiatives. They will also develop and coordinate management training in leadership, teamwork, and compliance.

Employee Relations

The Senior Manager will support museum managers in addressing employee concerns, respond to employee concerns and complaints, conduct investigations, and respond to unemployment claims. They will also support managers in responding to and managing employee performance issues.

Museum Culture

The Senior Manager will build strong relationships and be a trusted advisor to the museum leadership team and employees. They will serve as Co-chair of the staff's Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion Committee and develop strategies to enhance workplace culture and practices that cultivate a healthy and productive work environment for all employees.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a related field and a minimum of 8 years of demonstrated direct expertise across primary human resources functions. Experience in non-profit organizations is required, and multi-state experience (NY and CA) is highly desirable. Professional certification (SHRM or HRCI) is preferred but not required.

The successful candidate will be self-directed, highly motivated, and a team player with leadership ability. They will have strong administrative, managerial, and mentoring skills, as well as the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work effectively to meet deadlines. They will also have superior written and verbal communication skills and a strong knowledge of state and federal employment and benefit laws.
