Job Description:

As a Community Support Specialist Supervisor, you will play a vital role in the supervision of a team of Community Support Specialists, providing care coordination and accessing community resources for individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders. This position may be accomplished onsite or offsite in the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies in the communities served.
  • Complete monthly record review for the program, ensuring that State Regulatory/CARF standards are being maintained as well as monitoring compliance with program and agency Quality Improvement Indicators.
  • Follow-up with any deficiencies during weekly staffing meetings and assist associates with correction of deficiencies.
  • Provide oversight for service provision, completing spot checks on accuracy of staff documentation to ensure that the services rendered are appropriate and clinically justified, delivered at appropriate frequency and intensity based on client/patient need, and ensure that PFH associates are meeting direct service expectations.
  • Monitor progress notes for State Regulatory/CARF/the system's regulations, reference to treatment plans, entered within time frame, etc.
  • Ensure that Community Support associates are equipped to deliver services in community-based settings and monitor onsite/offsite service delivery.
  • Develop annual training schedules for Community Support Specialists. Will coordinate with Clinical Supervisor the scheduling/facilitation of required In-Services, monitoring of staff completion of annual trainings and/or assisting staff with identifying outside trainings when appropriate.
  • Complete and review written reports to referral sources as needed in a timely manner.
  • Underscore the importance of overall health and wellness keeping the SAMHSA 4 Principles of Recovery: Health, Home, Purpose, and Community as a focal point.
  • Promote integration of clinical, community support, and physical healthcare services working as a team leader.
  • Ensure that community support associates are representing the agency in a professional manner and maintaining the appropriate contact with client/family member/referral source/outside entities.
  • Develop program schedule and ensure that client rights and responsibilities are respected.
  • Coordinate services and collaborate with outside agencies to provide comprehensive services to the client/patient and client's family when needed, as well as providing education to outside entities about resources we provide.
  • Monitor program budget by reviewing service delivery, management of services that pertain to expenditures of allocated funds and review units of service for each client. In collaborative efforts with other site management team and Program Director, develop quarterly fiscal projections.
  • Provide uninterrupted coverage in accordance with licensing standards by scheduling associates, arrange substitute coverage during associate absences, and approve PFH associated requests for time off in a manner that anticipates program needs. Monitor and follow up, if needed, with all crisis calls occurring outside of program hours.
  • Complete PFH associate evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Provide clinical direction and supervision, perform corrective coaching and maintain weekly supervision records as well as individualized training plans.
  • Ensure that all policies and procedures are being implemented to guide and support the provision of services provided. Recommend any policy and procedure changes to assigned Program Director.
  • With the assistance of fellow site management team members, develop and implement QM measurement system to assure and promote continuous improvement as a team. Oversee team approach to increase communication, examine any complaints and develop plans to address program concerns. Assist Program Director in quarterly reports and indicators participating in routinely scheduled QM Meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Team/Executive Team and CEO.
  • Participate in staffing of assessments/annual assessments ensuring evaluations are completed within the time frames established. Provide face-to-face crisis assessment as required.
  • Ensure all CSS's assigned complete treatment plans and quartiles within the designated time frames.
  • Demonstrate interest in long-term and short-term goals and objectives of the company.
  • Other duties as assigned by designee or Executive Team member.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of case management and rehabilitation methods, principles, and techniques as they relate to mental health and substance use disorder treatment services.
  • Knowledge of the problems encountered by persons with mental health and/or substance use disorders residing in the community and how to access the various community resources available.
  • Knowledge of the methods and modalities as well as the legal requirements and court procedures related to treating mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of supervisory and training techniques and practices used in a mental health and/or substance use disorder treatment setting.
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate the work of Community Support Specialists.
  • Aptitude to develop, coordinate, and evaluate services within assigned program and implement corrective action plans.
  • Capable of communicating ideas clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing to produce clear and concise reports.
Experience and Education Qualifications:

Substance Use Disorder Programs

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, psychiatric nursing, or a closely related field, who has at least one (1) year professional experience in the treatment of substance use disorders;

OR

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, psychiatric nursing, or a closely related field, who has at least two (2) years professional experience in the treatment of substance use disorders: AND
  • Demonstrated competencies in the areas of supervision and substance use disorder treatment and rehabilitation by virtue of experience and/or training; AND
  • Community Support Specialist Supervisors of Adolescent programming must possess at least two (2) years of supervised experience working with adolescents in education, treatment, or social service settings.

Mental Health Programs

  • A qualified mental health professional meeting one of the following criteria:
    • Physician licensed under Missouri state law to practice medicine or osteopathy with training in mental health.
    • Psychiatrist, physician licensed under law.
    • Psychologist licensed under Missouri state law with specialized training in mental health services.
    • Professional counselor licensed under Missouri state law to practice counseling and with specialized training in mental health services.
    • Clinical social worker with a Master's degree in social work from an accredited program.
    • Psychiatric nurse, registered professional nurse, licensed under Chapter 335 RSMo, with at least two (2) years experience in a psychiatric setting or a Master's degree in psychiatric nursing.
    • Master's or Doctorate degree in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, vocational counseling, psychology, pastoral counseling or family therapy or a related field who has successfully completed a practicum or has one (1) year of experience under the supervision of a mental health professional.

OR

  • A Community Support Specialist meeting one of the following criteria:
    • A mental health professional as defined in 9 CSR 10 - 7.140 (2) (QQ) (Missouri);
    • An individual with a bachelor's degree in a human services field, which includes social work, psychology, nursing, education, criminal justice, recreational therapy, human development and family studies, counseling, child development, gerontology, sociology, human services, behavioral science and rehabilitation counseling;
    • An individual with any four-year degree and two years of qualifying experience;
    • Any four-year combination of higher education and qualifying experience, or
    • An individual with four years of qualifying experience.

Qualifying experience must include delivery of services to individuals with mental illness, substance abuse or developmental disabilities. Experience must include some combination of the following:

  • Providing one-on-one or group services with a rehabilitation/habilitation and recovery/resiliency focus;
  • Teaching and modeling for individuals how to cope and manage psychiatric, developmental or substance use issues while encouraging the use of natural resources;
  • Supporting efforts to find and maintain employment for individuals and/or to function appropriately in families, schools, and communities;
  • Assisted individuals to achieve the goals and objectives on their individualized treatment or person-centered plans; AND

Community Support Specialist Supervisors in the area of mental health programming must possess at least three years case management experience in the mental health field.

Supervisory Requirements:
  • Communicate the strategic direction of the organization and encourage participation by all associates.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to all aspects of Community Support work.
  • Take an active role in monitoring the identification, development, and execution of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Involve, as appropriate, associates in order to achieve goals.
  • Effectively communicate any changes within the department to ensure implementation and practice.
  • Provide direction and intervention in difficult personnel situations utilizing discretion and Human Resource Department for support.
  • Reinforce team approach throughout functions; support and solicit input from team members.
Employment Requirements:
  • Successful completion of background check including criminal record, driving record and abuse/neglect.
  • Completion of New Hire Orientation within 30 Days of employment.
  • All training requirements including Relias Learning within two (2) weeks of employment and annually thereafter.
  • First Aid certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.
  • Obtain CPR certification within three (3) months of beginning employment and upon renewal date.
  • Behavioral Management training completed within thirty (30) days of employment or first available class after start date:
    • CPI for Residential programs
    • Peaceful Intervention or Verbal De-escalation for Outpatient programs
