Job Title: Peer Specialist

ReDiscover is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our Peer Services Program. As a Peer Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorders.

About the Role:

The Peer Specialist will work closely with clients to provide support, guidance, and resources to help them achieve their recovery goals. This will involve sharing your personal experiences and modeling successful recovery behaviors, linking clients with support groups and community resources, and working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to develop and modify individual treatment plans.

Responsibilities:
  • Support ReDiscover's Substance Use Disorder programs and work with clients who have a substance use disorder.
  • Share your lived experience of resilience and recovery, and model successful recovery behaviors for individuals with a mental health diagnosis and/or a substance use disorder.
  • Link clients with support groups and other community resources, including health and wellness activities, employment opportunities, and other activities that support clients' recovery goals.
  • Work within an interdisciplinary team to develop and modify individual client treatment plans.
  • Participate in and/or facilitate mutual support and education groups within specific ReDiscover programs.
  • Assist with client transportation, which may include transporting individuals in your personal vehicle.
  • Utilize non-traditional means to connect with clients, which may include street outreach.
  • Safeguard Protected Health Information (written and electronically) and maintain confidentiality, including providing written documentation.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A valid automobile driver's license, appropriate automobile insurance, and a safe, reliable, registered automobile available for use during work are required.
  • You must have life experiences with mental illness/substance use disorders and have received services.
  • You must have successfully completed the Peer Specialist training through the Missouri Credentialing Board (MCB) and successfully passed the certification exam.
  • You must also satisfy requirements for external community partners.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a recovery focus are essential.
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word, and Excel programs, as well as GSuite, are necessary.
  • You must be willing to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver's License in the future.
