Patient Service Representative

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our team at Lowell General Hospital. As a Patient Service Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our revenue cycle, from patient registration to billing and collections.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct pre-registration tasks for inpatients and outpatients, including collecting demographic and financial information, verifying insurance coverage, and obtaining necessary authorizations.
- Collect patient payments and post collected payments in the system of record.
- Provide excellent customer service and deliver exceptional professional courtesy to all patients.
- Interact with physicians, nursing units, and office staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Maintain and hospital financial information confidentially in accordance with all hospital policy and any state or federal regulations.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of medical office, insurance, physician's office practice, or hospital registration experience preferred.
- Bilingual a plus.
- Frequent sitting, occasional standing or working, and lifting of 10-15 pounds.
- May be exposed to dust and other typical office-like discomforts.
- Manual dexterity using fine hand manipulations for computer keyboard operation.
- Requires ability to see computer screen and read reports.
- Requires ability to hear instructions from physicians and other clinical or nursing staff.
- Computer literacy required including familiarity with word processing programs and electronic spreadsheets and facility in learning new applications.
- Strong customer service skills including excellent interpersonal and telephone skills.
- High degree of tact is necessary due to frequent interaction with patients, physicians, and insurance companies.
- Experience using computer-based, patient registration systems.
- Thorough understanding of private insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid programs.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Excellent organizational skills required with attention to detail.
