Certified Medical Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in the Hospital Based Clinics Float Pool at Duke Health. As a key member of our interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide direct patient care and support to our medical and nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties, including answering telephones, greeting patients, and updating patient medical records.
- Assist medical and nursing staff with various tasks, such as taking medical histories, recording vital signs, and preparing patients for examinations and procedures.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests, and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Promote patient/family understanding of educational content and involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient records.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, authorize drug refills, and telephone prescriptions to pharmacies.
- Draw blood, prepare patients for x-rays, tests, and procedures, and take electrocardiograms.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program (CMA I, CMA II, or CMA III) or a Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required.
- BLS Certification required.
