Air Traffic Systems Operations Specialist

Position Overview:
The incumbent serves as the primary technical authority for the development of effective solutions to unforeseen challenges impacting the operational integrity of the National Airspace System (NAS).
Key Responsibilities:
As a senior project manager or team leader, the individual will oversee large-scale, complex initiatives. This role involves representing the Department of Transportation as a senior technical authority on significant agency projects, emerging technologies, and stakeholder concerns.
The incumbent is responsible for:
- Establishing and managing program objectives and formulating comprehensive project plans.
- Interpreting and recommending changes to ensure compliance with organizational policies.
- Identifying, procuring, and managing resources necessary for the successful execution of extensive work activities.
Collaboration and Coordination:
The role requires working closely with customers at various organizational levels to resolve intricate issues, ensuring the NAS's operational integrity. The incumbent will coordinate with multiple air traffic entities to manage the shutdown and restoration of facilities and systems, minimizing disruptions to air traffic operations.
Problem Resolution:
Quickly addressing restoration challenges with minimal impact on the NAS is essential. The incumbent will provide agency-wide leadership for complex technical activities, employing innovative concepts to tackle persistent problems.
Resource Management:
The individual will maintain the authority to allocate necessary resources to fulfill the agency's mission, developing creative strategies to achieve organizational goals while optimizing resource utilization.
Technical Expertise:
As a recognized expert, the incumbent will provide guidance and instruction to navigate diverse, complex issues across multiple projects and programs. This includes formulating policies and plans to address current and anticipated challenges.
Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience in technology system interrelationships within the NAS, as well as management of automated aviation systems.
Additional Information:
This position may be subject to a background investigation and requires a valid driver's license. The selected candidate may need to file a financial disclosure statement upon entry into duty.
