Palo Alto, California, United States PsiQuantum Full time

About PsiQuantum:

At PsiQuantum, we are driven by the belief that quantum computing will revolutionize industries reliant on extensive computational power. Our mission is to create the world's first practical quantum computer, capable of achieving transformative outcomes. This ambitious goal requires a system with 1 million qubits, robust error correction, a scalable architecture, and an efficient data center footprint.

Quantum computers leverage the principles of quantum physics to deliver exponential performance enhancements over today’s leading supercomputers, paving the way for remarkable advancements across various sectors, including climate science, energy, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, finance, agriculture, transportation, materials design, and beyond.

We are uniquely positioned to fulfill the promise of quantum computing ahead of our competitors. Our architecture utilizes photonics, enabling us to manufacture components through established high-volume semiconductor processes, similar to those producing billions of chips for telecommunications and consumer electronics. Additionally, because photons are not affected by heat, we can utilize existing cryogenic cooling systems, like those in operation at renowned facilities.

Job Overview:

The Mechanical Hardware Prototyping Engineer will become a vital member of PsiQuantum's Mechanical Engineering team, focusing on the validation and experimental development of mechanical components, assemblies, and thermal solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construct design prototypes for mechanical, electronic, and optical subsystems to assess fit, functionality, and performance.
  • Identify and select off-the-shelf components or fabricate custom parts to develop test jigs and fixtures.
  • Collaborate with machine shops to produce mechanical parts with rapid turnaround times as required.
  • Choose suitable sensors and instruments to equip assemblies for measuring temperature, force, deflection, stress, torque, and other performance metrics.
  • Work closely with design engineers to formulate test plans for validation processes.
  • Conduct quality assurance inspections and perform root-cause failure analyses on mechanical components.
  • Gather and analyze experimental data, preparing reports or presentations for cross-team sharing.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability and reliability of designs.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in hardware engineering within the industry.
  • An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software is advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with basic machining tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with lab electronics fabrication and testing instruments is beneficial.
  • Experience in handling optical fibers or testing optical components is preferred.
  • Exposure to long-term reliability testing and analysis is a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail is essential.

PsiQuantum is committed to providing equal employment opportunities for all applicants and employees, ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace.
