Role Summary:

The university is in search of a seasoned leader in fiscal affairs who possesses the managerial capabilities to enhance the institution's reputation for innovation and student-centered initiatives. The Vice President for Fiscal Affairs & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be a passionate advocate for public education, understanding the vital social, cultural, and economic contributions of public institutions in the region. This role requires a commitment to uphold the highest standards of intellectual rigor and to be a collaborative leader dedicated to the advancement of the Commonwealth University.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership:
    • Provide strategic advice to the university President regarding all fiscal matters and the financial implications of institutional decisions.
    • Maintain open communication channels, ensuring the President is apprised of critical financial issues.
    • Promote high ethical standards, compliance with regulations, and effective financial oversight.
    • Foster trust and collaboration within the Fiscal Affairs Division and across the university.
  • Operational Management:
    • Develop and implement a cohesive financial strategy that aligns with the university's objectives.
    • Collaborate with university leadership to identify and pursue strategic financial opportunities.
    • Oversee the preparation of the university's operating budget and long-term financial planning.
    • Conduct thorough financial analysis to ensure sustainable financial health and support student success initiatives.
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of budget and financial statements.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Represent the university's financial interests to external stakeholders.
    • Serve as a liaison to various committees, effectively communicating financial matters.
    • Support compliance and risk management initiatives.
    • Guide and mentor staff in fiscal operations, promoting a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
    • Participate in emergency response planning and execution as part of the university's leadership team.

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • Significant executive-level experience in finance and budgeting.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in financial management.
  • At least five years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as CPA or CMA are highly desirable.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning and leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on servant leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in public higher education finance.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations applicable to higher education in Pennsylvania.
