Position Overview

The South Bay Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (SBWIB, Inc.) is in search of a dynamic, self-driven, and dependable individual who possesses outstanding interpersonal and customer service abilities to serve as a Program Assistant within our Youth Department and Teen Center(s). This role encompasses a diverse range of administrative and programmatic responsibilities, including the planning and execution of after-school initiatives aimed at engaging the youth who utilize our facilities. The ideal candidate will effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain professionalism and ethical standards, demonstrate initiative, and efficiently manage their time with or without supervision in a potentially fast-paced environment. Ultimately, this individual should contribute to achieving specific objectives, outcomes, and the overall success of the center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the execution of the Leadership Program, which includes but is not limited to:
    • Designing and facilitating impactful academic, enrichment, and recreational activities that enhance the life skills of community youth, including planning, leading, and evaluating workshop outcomes;
    • Supporting the Teen Center Coordinator in preparing for meetings with community partners and identifying community service projects;
    • Guiding youth in planning, leading, and evaluating community-based events;
    • Organizing small group discussions with youth post-events to collectively evaluate strengths and areas for improvement;
    • Assisting in outreach and recruitment efforts for students, families, and volunteers;
    • Contributing to the completion of various program reports and collecting data to generate statistical reports on student outcomes;
    • Participating in meetings, events, and other special activities;
    • Conducting building rounds to provide encouragement and inspiration;
    • Possibly supervising students and offering functional guidance, support, and motivation;
    • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college education preferred
  • Two (2) years of experience working with youth in after-school programs, youth centers, or similar settings, along with a solid understanding of administrative processes;
  • A proven ability to collaborate positively and effectively with diverse groups is essential;
  • Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills;
  • Must be self-directed, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently with minimal supervision;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as virtual meeting platforms such as ZOOM and Teams;
  • Must successfully pass background and reference checks and adhere to safety protocols;
  • This position may necessitate working from multiple sites. Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and proof of vehicle insurance are required.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, non-exempt position (40 hours/week), typically offering a starting hourly wage based on experience. The pay range for this role is $21.43/hr. Our organization provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, which includes 75% health cost reimbursement (for employee only), sick and vacation time, holidays, and a competitive 401k plan. The employer is eligible for student loan forgiveness (PSLF). All full-time employees are invited to participate in the company's health benefits package after completing the introductory employment period.
