About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Academic Professional to serve as an in-person instructor for the Pharmaceutical Care Skills Lab course sequence in Duluth during both Fall and Spring semesters and the PSD (Professional Skills Development) lead to WTL (Whole Task Learning).

This is a two-year term-limited appointment. Any potential renewals will be based solely on the needs of the College and availability of funding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching (90%):
    • Serve as a course director and/or instructor for assigned courses in the Pharmaceutical Care Learning Center (PCLC) course sequence.
    • Implement previously set syllabi, schedule, grading policy, and other course materials in coordination with other PCLC instructors on both TC and Duluth campuses and in accordance with PCLC course standards, mission, and vision.
    • Work closely with and regularly communicate with PCLC instructors for courses assigned.
    • Collaborate with other College of Pharmacy instructors to develop and lead sessions as scheduled for the course(s), integrating with other courses.
    • Review, update, and implement previously developed course activities (including managing the course website) and teaching assistant (TA) guides in coordination with other instructors.
    • Work with, coordinate, and assist with training for MSimulation events with simulated patients.
    • Manage assessment rubrics for course activities in an electronic system in coordination with other instructors.
    • Work with appropriate faculty and staff to inventory, maintain, and set up supplies necessary for course delivery.
    • Submit final grades.
    • Student support during courses:
      • Hold office hours or appointments for students (or open office door policy).
      • Respond to student questions via email or in-person.
      • Coordinate makeup lab sessions and assist with navigating and supporting student absences in the PSD course.
      • Train and mentor students for their professional development and growth.
    • TA support during courses:
      • Train and mentor TAs for their direct teaching roles in the course.
      • Facilitate and supervise teaching assistants' instruction in the course.
      • Monitor teaching assistants' provision of feedback.
      • Review and ensure consistency in the grading of assignments by TAs.
      • Review re-grade requests.
    • Support students who meet requirements for remediation of PCLC courses, including plans outlined by the Academic Standing Committee:
      • Create remediation plans with students.
      • Coordinate TA support necessary for student remediation.
      • Create and update remediation materials for students.
    • WTL/TBL support as a regular, engaged point of contact for the students, particularly for P1 cohort.
    • Serve as PSD P1 lead for 1 semester, supporting the dual campus model (with TC partner who will lead the other PSD P1 semester).
    • Back-up support for other PSD instructors in the event of illness, conferences, or other course needs (i.e., immunization lab, practical assessments, etc.).
    • Assist, develop, and implement continuous quality improvement initiatives in conjunction with the greater PCLC/PSD team.
  • Service (10%):
    • Provide service to the College of Pharmacy and University.
    • Attend weekly instructor meetings (e.g., PSD, WTL, PCLC).
    • Provide input into policy and procedure development.
    • Provide input into applied learning and performance assessment initiatives.
    • Work with other instructors to help precept APPE students on an Introduction to Academia rotation as appropriate for assigned courses.
    • Actively engage with the Student Support Panel both at meetings and between within the P1 year and providing insight specifically regarding Duluth student performance in PSD.
    • Be involved in student coaching.
Requirements
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
  • License or the ability to obtain a license to practice pharmacy in the state of Minnesota.
  • Strong pharmacy practice background, including knowledge of the philosophy and practice of pharmaceutical care.
  • Ability to support others' growth, navigate difficult conversations, and provide appropriate coaching and referral to resources.
  • Previous teaching experience (e.g. Precepting students, developing teaching materials, delivering lectures/topic discussion, etc.).
  • Commitment to support the College of Pharmacy core values.
