Job Summary

The University of Miami seeks a highly qualified Research Scientist to join our esteemed faculty in the Department of Surgery - Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for conducting, collaborating, and managing scientific research and investigations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and manage scientific research and investigations, reporting to the Division Director and/or Department Chair.
  • Participate in the management of daily operations of your research laboratory.
  • Supervise, mentor, and manage postdoctoral fellows and graduate students engaged in collaborative research projects.
  • Explore and develop research collaborations within the Department, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and outside of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine departments and schools.
  • Collect and analyze data, write and submit scientific papers and abstracts, and submit grant proposals.
  • Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues and at academic/research conferences.
  • Participate in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center Junior Development Program.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in biological and biomedical science and/or equivalent area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of scientific techniques.
  • Experience in running a lab, funded research projects, and/or supervising post-docs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Completion of successful academic and research work resulting in authorship and/or co-authorship of papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to develop collaborative research projects and contribute to scientific advances in the field.
  • Ability to teach in the laboratory setting and/or through presentations of papers and/or seminars.
  • Successful track record of research projects/funds and contribution to grant applications.
  • Desire to move towards scientific independence through submission of grant applications, development of independent research projects, or collaboration with scientists other than the primary mentor.
