GROUNDS OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

This is a salaried position with comprehensive benefits

Work Hours: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm during peak seasons; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm during off-peak seasons

As the Grounds Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily management and coordination of a team of grounds maintenance personnel and team leaders. This role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities related to general grounds upkeep, landscaping, and external facility maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • 1. Supervise and coordinate a team of grounds maintenance staff and foremen in various landscaping and maintenance tasks.
  • 2. Ensure the proper care of lawns, shrubs, trees, walkways, parking areas, and boundary lines.
  • 3. Develop and manage schedules for mowing, fertilizing, liming, seeding, and herbicide application, as well as pruning activities.
  • 4. Monitor and report any irregularities in plant health and recommend necessary improvements.
  • 5. Verify the accuracy and timeliness of crew and staff time records, ensuring proper leave usage and authorizing overtime as needed.
  • 6. Complete and maintain all required administrative documentation and procedures, adhering to safety regulations and protocols.
  • 7. Act as the primary contact for any emergencies, incidents, or personnel issues at the work site, conducting initial investigations and reporting findings.
  • 8. Maintain daily logs of security measures and the appropriate use of supplies, equipment, and vehicles.
  • 9. Participate in meetings, training sessions, and industry conferences to stay informed about landscaping trends and improve management skills.
  • 10. Assist with snow removal operations as necessary.
  • 11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION
The Grounds Operations Supervisor reports directly to the Horticulture Operations Manager.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Primarily outdoor work, subject to varying weather conditions and temperatures. The role may involve exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, or other environmental factors.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The incumbent must be capable of standing or walking for 95% of the workday and sitting for 5% to effectively inspect grounds, check equipment, and complete necessary paperwork. The role requires the ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds and push or pull up to 100 pounds, as well as perform tasks such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, and handling materials.

Awareness of safety hazards is essential, along with effective communication skills to ensure team safety and understanding.

Good vision and hearing are necessary for operating equipment, inspecting grounds work, and performing maintenance tasks.


QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should possess a minimum of five years of progressive experience in grounds maintenance, horticultural practices, and relevant equipment operation. A minimum of three years in a supervisory role is preferred. Pesticide certification is mandatory. Candidates must be able to pass a security clearance and work flexible hours, including potential nights and weekends. A clean driving record and valid driver's license are required. Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is a plus.
