POSITION SUMMARY

The Client Support Specialist at South Middlesex Opportunity is responsible for evaluating client requirements and aiding them in formulating and implementing strategies to fulfill those needs. This role encompasses a range of services tailored to the unique circumstances and capabilities of each client.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct initial assessments and interviews to evaluate clients' housing, financial, medical, mental health, and substance use needs.
  • Introduce clients to available program services, clarify confidentiality policies, and secure necessary consent for information sharing.
  • Identify obstacles that hinder clients from reaching their objectives.
  • Assess potential eligibility for job opportunities or benefit programs and collaborate with clients to create a plan for income generation.
  • Assist clients in filling out applications for benefits and housing.
  • Guide clients in prioritizing and determining actionable steps and appropriate referral resources to address their health, income, and housing needs.
  • Connect clients with shelters, programs, housing options, substance use treatment, mental health services, and other necessary providers.
  • Instruct clients in coping mechanisms.
  • Advocate for clients as necessary and appropriate.
  • Foster a positive and trusting relationship between clients and support staff.
  • Complete all required agency documentation and reports.
  • Maintain thorough records of client cases.
  • Document all client interactions in the designated database.
  • Assist clients with transportation needs through referrals or by providing transportation resources when suitable.
  • Provide crisis intervention and connect clients to emergency services as needed.
  • Offer supportive counseling as required.
  • Engage in staff meetings, clinical supervision, and interagency collaborations.
  • Build a network of professional and support services for client referrals.
  • Adhere to established procedures and protocols set by the program.
  • Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs, whether within or outside the defined scope of work.
  • Participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff across different areas.
  • Uphold the confidentiality of client, employee, and agency information in compliance with applicable laws and funding requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to program, departmental, agency, and funding standards, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to engage with various populations, including those with mental health or substance use challenges.
  • Strong empathy, advocacy, empowerment, teaching, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Familiarity with Word and Excel is preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Bilingual proficiency is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are preferred.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

  • This position reports directly to the Program Director.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to navigate stairs.
  • Capability to drive.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The program operates on the second floor of a multi-story building without elevator access. Parking is available in a nearby lot. This role may involve direct or incidental contact with clients served by various programs. A successful background check is required.
