About the Role

Doyon Government Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Construction Site Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, subcontractors, and clients on construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Safety Plans: Create and review accident prevention plans, activity hazard analyses, and crane and rigging plans to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct Site Inspections: Perform daily site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Provide Safety Training: Deliver on-site safety education to subcontractors and employees to promote a culture of safety.
  • Coordinate Safety Efforts: Work with the Quality Control Manager and site Superintendent to coordinate safety issues and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Manage Safety Activities: Oversee site-specific safety activities, including permit-required confined space, abatement, and lockout/tag out activities.
  • Prioritize Tasks: Prioritize daily tasks to maintain safety compliance and project schedule.
  • Investigate Incidents: Conduct mishap investigations and complete required accident reports.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
  • Provide Safety Orientations: Deliver 1st-day site safety orientations for all new employees.
  • Maintain Safety Records: Maintain the OSHA 300 form, safety reference materials, and a safety and health deficiency tracking system.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience and education.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of construction industry safety experience.
  • Training: 30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent, and certifications in fall protection, HAZWOPR 40, lead awareness, blood-borne pathogens, first aid/CPR, confined space management, and other relevant areas.
  • Qualifications: An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 4 years, with training for competent person status in areas such as excavation, scaffolding, fall protection, and hazardous energy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CHST Certification: Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) certification.
Working Environment

The majority of the work is performed in an indoor/outdoor setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.

Physical Demands

An individual will be required to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and repeat motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects is required.
