Position Overview
This role is pivotal in overseeing the Reconciliation Center of Excellence (Recon CoE). The selected candidate will manage a specific business segment encompassing various business lines and products. Reporting directly to the Director of Accounting, this position entails accountability for daily operations, deliverables, and strategic initiatives related to the assigned business segment. The role requires fostering robust partnerships with both internal teams and external stakeholders. A strong emphasis will be placed on developing processes and procedures to ensure high-quality controls are implemented for all functional responsibilities. This includes ensuring the accuracy of balance sheet reconciliations, creating and maintaining documentation/SOPs for the reconciliation process, driving standardization, and enhancing reconciliation practices across the segment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, mentor, and develop a diverse accounting team comprising both onshore and offshore resources for the entire business segment. This includes coaching and developing managerial staff.
- Provide expert guidance on reconciliation requirements for the designated areas of responsibility.
- Build strong networks and relationships with business and operational stakeholders.
- Collaborate with segment controllership to deliver financial analysis and insights related to the reconciliation portfolio on a regular basis.
- Oversee complex balance sheet reconciliations, approving reconciliations for all staff members, including Supervisors.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of upstream and downstream processes related to balance sheet reconciliations.
- Develop, enhance, monitor, and execute key financial metrics and management reporting.
- Manage various projects and initiatives, including system integrations and process improvements.
- Willingness to travel over 15% of the time.
- Supervise 1 - 4 Supervisors and manage 6 - 12 offshore resources.
- Yes, responsible for managing project resources.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA is highly preferred.
- 8-10 years of relevant general accounting experience, preferably in the insurance sector.
- A minimum of 4 years in a supervisory role.
- Recent experience managing a high volume of balance sheet reconciliations.
- Proficient in Oracle ERP or similar ERP systems.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical skills: ability to gather and analyze data, identify trends, and communicate findings effectively.
- Experience in leading or supporting transformational initiatives.
- Excellent collaboration, delegation, and partnership skills.
- Knowledge of US GAAP, STAT, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with progressive accounting practices and procedures.
- Experience with Blackline or other reconciliation tools is a plus.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements such as SOX and audits.
- Experience in an enterprise center of excellence environment is advantageous.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to meeting strict deadlines for recurring deliverables.
