SGH is looking for a proactive and skilled engineer to expand our structural engineering practice in Southern California. The Structures Division engages in a diverse array of stimulating projects, including seismic retrofitting of existing buildings, restoration and rehabilitation of structures, performance assessments, adaptive reuse of buildings, new construction design, and more. Our work encompasses all structural materials such as steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and composites, and we frequently apply advanced analytical techniques in our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a variety of structural engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
  • Design new structures; assess, investigate, evaluate, and analyze existing structures; design seismic retrofits, modifications, and repairs of existing buildings.
  • Oversee the development of structural construction documents and calculation packages.
  • Conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
  • Manage the construction administration phase of projects, including reviewing submittals, responding to inquiries, attending site meetings, and preparing field reports.
  • Collaborate with the principal-in-charge, senior project manager, and junior staff to plan and execute projects.
  • Serve as a project manager on selected projects, managing budgets, schedules, and staffing.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients and contractors regarding assigned work.
  • Support the training, mentoring, and management of junior staff.
  • Assist in proposal development and business growth initiatives.
  • Pursue professional activities to achieve recognition in the field.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 9 years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License in California.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment towards common goals.
  • Proficient in writing and editing project specifications, technical reports, field reports, project correspondence, and proposals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage project budgets.
  • Skilled in using computer analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, Perform3D, RISA, RAM, SAFE, etc.).
  • Familiarity with implementing various codes and guidelines, including the California Building Code, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, etc.
  • Willingness to travel for out-of-state projects and to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Compensation:

The anticipated annual base salary ranges from $94,000 to $156,000. This range is a good-faith estimate provided in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. The actual salary offered may vary based on several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, education, skills, and competencies. Base salary is part of SGH's industry-leading Total Compensation package, which includes base salary, pay for extra hours worked, an annual bonus program, generous paid time off, and health and wellness benefits with significant contributions to medical insurance premiums and SGH's Profit Sharing & 401(k) Plan.
