Long Beach, California, United States Relativity Full time

Company Overview:

At Relativity Space, we are driven by two ambitious objectives: to establish a premier commercial launch enterprise with Terran R and to emerge as a leader in additive manufacturing advancements in the United States.

Both endeavors are integral to our long-term vision of creating an industrial foundation for humanity on Mars, facilitating the expansion of interplanetary life and enhancing the human experience.

This journey commences right here on Earth – where we conceptualize, construct, and launch rockets to transport customer payloads into orbit.

Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable launch vehicle, addresses the increasing demand for launch capabilities, thanks to our iterative methodology that accelerates design, testing, and development while reducing costs.

Your journey with us transcends a mere job – it is a chance to influence the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate and innovative individuals.

Join us on this remarkable journey as we collaborate to turn our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Structures team at Relativity is tasked with the design, analysis, testing, and production of our launch vehicle integrated structures, along with flight mechanisms.

As a member of this team, you will take ownership of hardware throughout the entire product lifecycle and have the opportunity to validate your hardware through testing at our advanced manufacturing facility.

About the Role:

To support our mission of revolutionizing rocket construction and operation, you will be accountable for transforming critical flight structures and supporting components from design concepts into tangible hardware ready for launch.

Your responsibilities will encompass a comprehensive design cycle, including conceptualization, design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing for primary and secondary structures related to Thrust Structure, Propellant Tanks, Interstage, or Fairing, among others.

Here are some examples of projects you could be involved in:

• Innovative conceptualization of structural load paths, designing complex structures, and packaging adjacent systems

• Reviewing static and dynamic load inputs, material properties, and structural systems and subsystems requirements

• Analyzing and sizing flight structures to ensure timely design reviews and drawing releases

• Developing and supporting hardware test campaigns, including test integration, operation, and result evaluation

• Assisting in manufacturing process development, including tools or fixtures design or analysis

Your mission will be to deliver these projects within established timelines and budgets.

To achieve this, you will collaborate closely with our additive, design, test, and loads & dynamics teams.

To excel in this role, you should be self-motivated, thrive in uncertain environments, and be capable of leading your projects to successful completion.

Ideally, you have experience in a fast-paced aerospace setting, having successfully completed challenging projects while effectively collaborating with other key teams.

On a weekly basis, you will design flight or ground components using NX/TeamCenter, perform analyses using Nastran, ANSYS, and/or hand calculations, create and release drawings, and support the fabrication of your components.

Your designs will be optimized for our additive manufacturing techniques, for which a fundamental understanding is essential.

You will also leverage your strong organizational skills to document your work thoroughly and advance your recommendations when decisions are required.

About You:
• 2+ years of experience in a comprehensive design engineering role

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field

• Working knowledge of structural analysis and testing (from hand calculations to advanced analysis)

• Fundamental understanding of structural strength, stability, and fatigue failure mechanisms

• Basic knowledge of both additive and traditional manufacturing processes

• Responsible for the design and development of the thrust structure

Preferred Qualifications:
• 2+ years of aerospace experience and an advanced engineering degree

• Extensive experience with NX/TeamCenter

• Proficiency in using Nastran and ANSYS

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company.
