SGH is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled engineer to expand our structural engineering division in Southern California. The Structures Division engages in a variety of stimulating project types, including seismic retrofitting of existing structures, rehabilitation of buildings, performance assessments, adaptive reuse of structures, and new design initiatives. Our work encompasses all structural materials such as steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and composites, employing advanced analytical techniques and methodologies in our projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in a diverse array of structural engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
  • Design new structures; assess, investigate, evaluate, and analyze existing structures; develop seismic retrofits, modifications, and repairs for existing buildings.
  • Oversee the creation of structural construction documents and calculation packages.
  • Conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
  • Manage the construction administration phase of projects, including reviewing submittals, responding to inquiries, attending site meetings, and preparing field reports.
  • Collaborate with the principal-in-charge, senior project manager, and junior staff to effectively plan and execute projects.
  • Serve as a project manager on select assignments, overseeing budgets, schedules, and staffing.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Maintain direct communication with clients and contractors regarding assigned work.
  • Support the training, mentoring, and management of junior staff.
  • Contribute to proposal development and business growth initiatives.
  • Pursue professional activities to achieve recognition in the field.

Qualifications:

  • At least 9 years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures.
  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License in California.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment towards common objectives.
  • Proficient in drafting and editing project specifications, technical reports, field reports, project correspondence, and proposals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage project budgets effectively.
  • Familiarity with computer analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, Perform3D, RISA, RAM, SAFE, etc.).
  • Knowledge and experience in applying various codes and guidelines, including the California Building Code, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, etc.
  • Willingness to travel for out-of-state projects and to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation.
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report.
