Senior Cost Estimator

Blue Signal Search is collaborating with a prominent electrical contracting company known for its expertise in delivering intricate and innovative electrical systems across diverse sectors. We are in search of a highly proficient Senior Cost Estimator to enhance their team.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in crafting precise and competitive proposals for electrical construction initiatives. Reporting directly to the Chief Estimator, your responsibilities will include scrutinizing project specifications, liaising with subcontractors and suppliers, and ensuring that all estimates conform to organizational standards and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in pre-bid discussions to fully comprehend project scope and requirements.
  • Conduct site evaluations to assess project conditions and gather essential data for accurate estimates.
  • Analyze project bid documents to formulate comprehensive cost projections.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and suppliers to secure pricing for outsourced tasks, ensuring completeness and adherence to project specifications.
  • Utilize advanced takeoff software to execute detailed quantity takeoffs and meet project timelines.
  • Prepare and present change order estimates for ongoing projects as necessary.
  • Work alongside the estimating team and management to finalize bids and review proposals before submission.
  • Assess and compare subcontractor and vendor bids, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and specifications.
  • Develop value engineering alternatives that align with client objectives.
  • Support the project management team during the transition from estimating to project execution, providing assistance and clarification on estimate details.
  • Draft proposal letters that clearly articulate the scope of work, inclusions, exclusions, and other relevant details.
  • Ensure compliance with proposal deadlines and timely submission of all required documentation.
  • Adapt to varying levels of project information and provide accurate estimates based on available data.
  • Follow up on submitted bids and proposals, communicating feedback and outcomes to management.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards, reporting any discrepancies to the Chief Estimator.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of technical training and relevant experience.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in commercial construction and conceptual estimating.
  • Demonstrated experience in pre-construction and conceptual estimating for large electrical projects valued at $25 million or more.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and computerized estimating tools, with experience in on-screen takeoff software.
  • Familiarity with estimating software such as Accubid or similar; experience with McCormick is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
