Student Housing operates as a self-sustaining, extensive campus department, encompassing 6 housing communities and 3 support units, employing over 280 staff members and managing an annual budget of $120 million. We provide accommodation for approximately 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students, along with their families, across more than 250 buildings and approximately 3.3 million square feet. Currently, Student Housing accommodates 51% of UCI's enrolled students, with a strategic goal of increasing this to 60% as part of the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). Additionally, we offer maintenance and repair services to our residents.

Your Role

The Community Assignments Manager leverages specialized expertise to guide and mentor junior Student Services professionals, enhancing housing placements within Graduate and Family Housing (GFH). Operating independently, this role addresses complex cases and oversees the intricacies of Graduate and Family Housing Community Assignments, a vital function within Student Life & Development. The incumbent will provide vision and leadership, managing daily operations for GFH's Community Assignments, which involves coordinating assignments across three Graduate and Family Housing properties and collaborating with external housing partners. This position is dedicated to delivering high-quality service and support in response to individual and community needs.

In this role, you will supervise career staff, including Assignments Coordinators and various student staff at the service desk. The Manager shares accountability for the operational success of a housing unit, including its annual budget. You will also provide after-hours support as needed and participate in the Graduate and Family Housing and Student Housing Emergency Response Team, assessing community emergencies and determining appropriate responses. Collaborating with other managers, you will contribute to strategic planning and objectives that enhance family life and development within the organization, focusing on student enrollment, retention, and inclusive excellence.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $69,500 - $80,000 (Annual).

Essential Qualifications:

  • Expertise in advising and counseling techniques.
  • Proficient in university-specific software applications and familiar with university and departmental principles.
  • In-depth knowledge of Student Affairs or related fields.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills, with the ability to identify performance metrics and implement improvements.
  • Advanced project management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Creative in developing solutions for individual and community-wide challenges.
  • Thorough understanding of risk assessment procedures.
  • Proven leadership and supervisory skills, with experience in developing and evaluating staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on active listening and critical thinking.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to foster positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Political acumen regarding sensitive issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • A minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in student services or property management.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in policy, data, budget, or technical writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in budget management and financial forecasting.
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

Special Conditions:

  • Background check and DMV clearance required.
  • This position is designated as a Mandated Reporter under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).
  • Willingness to assist during emergencies or natural disasters.
  • Availability for occasional overtime, nights, and weekends.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid Certification.
