The City of Irvine seeks a Community Services Specialist to assist with our Aquatics programming. The purpose of the Community Services Specialist position is to oversee functions of various City programs including large-scale programming, cross-section communication, contract and vendor management, budgeting, program development, scheduling staff and volunteers, assuring a safe, clean and well maintained building and recreation areas.
The ideal candidates for this position will possess superior customer service skills, sound judgment, decision making abilities, and demonstrate the capacity to lead a large and detail focused work team. The work typically is performed under general direction of a Community Services Program Coordinator or Community Services Supervisor.
Aquatics
The City of Irvine operates year-round municipal programs in unique aquatic facilities. The world renowned William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center provides a "world class" venue for local, regional, and national competitive events and features two 50 meter pools and a 25 yard instructional pool. The Northwood High School Aquatics Center features one 50 meter pool. Aquatics operation provides a combination of instructional, educational, recreational, and competitive programs offered by the City and a number of local nonprofit aquatic organizations. The City's Learn To Swim program is one of the largest municipal swimming programs in Southern California.
Hours: Varying shifts between Sunday through Thursday.

Your Impact
Plans, organizes, supervises and implements a core community service program within a specific section.May plan, staff, supervise, coordinate and implement a site child care program requiring developing an activity-based curriculum of age appropriate social, educational and recreational activities; organizes transportation services; coordinates excursions, off-site activities, and special events. Serves as on-site supervisor to ensure safety, well-being, and accountability for school age children.May coordinate and oversee operations of a multi-use City facility including scheduling City programs, contract classes, and facility rental for meetings, private events, weddings, promotional events and large group picnics. May develop and maintain complex scheduling and permitting activities, including ensuring compliance for insurance and liability coverage.Coordinates tours; identifies event set-up and equipment needs, coordinates customer special requests, determines staffing requirements, and prepares reports on condition of facility, billing and participation.Serves as liaison to facility rental patrons to provide facility information, explain and implement facility rules.Responds to and resolves inquires and concerns from participants, parents, volunteers, facility patrons and general public.Identifies maintenance and safety problems. Submits maintenance orders, coordinates repair work; and performs minor maintenance tasks. Maintains a clean and organized working environment as a part of daily operations.Maintains a complete inventory of supplies and equipment for the facility; maintains a complete inventory of facility keys and assigns appropriate keys to staff; maintains multiple storage areas and key cabinets.Ensures chemicals kept on site are labeled, housed, and used in accordance with safety instructions; provides necessary protective equipment; retains current Safety Data Sheets.Participates in program budget preparation, prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations, submits justifications for assigned programs, monitors and controls expenditures.Enforces City policies, procedures, and applicable state licensing regulations to assure for the safety and welfare of participates. Responds to emergencies and provides appropriate First Aid or other assistance.Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises and reviews work of part-time staff and volunteers. Participates in selection, performs performance reviews. Provides technical assistance and in-service training to staff within assigned program.Performs a variety of general administrative duties such as compiling program statistics, and preparing simple reports, records, memoranda, and correspondence; collects and accounts for fees. Utilizes computer applications relative to work assignment including Facility/Class Reservation System (Class Reg), Chameleon, purchasing, word processing, data bases, and budget programsMinimum Qualifications Two years of college or university level work (coursework in Recreation, Social Ecology, Education or a related field preferred) and two years experience as a Community Services Leader or within a specialized program area, preferably with the City of Irvine, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.Must possess a valid California driver's license and evidence of a good record. Requires certification in First Aid/CPR/AED within three months of employment. May require evidence of a negative tuberculin test taken within the past two years. Best Fit
