Job Overview

The Hospital Risk Claims Specialist plays a crucial role in managing hospital-related risk claims, ensuring compliance with external regulations and the contractual commitments of Health Plans and/or Hospitals/IPAs. This position involves thorough research, review, and communication with provider services to resolve claims-related issues effectively. The Specialist also contributes to process enhancements and serves as a knowledgeable resource for the entire team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed reviews of all incoming adjustment requests to confirm the availability of essential information.
  • Achieve production and accuracy benchmarks set by claims management.
  • Process claims adjustments in line with departmental guidelines and applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to address and resolve claims issues.
  • Support Providers and various departments in claims investigation efforts.
  • Evaluate and respond to inquiries submitted through the web portal.
  • Assist in the training of claims staff when issues arise.
  • Foster a collaborative and understanding environment among all team members.
  • Participate in organizational meetings as required.
  • Comply with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by Claims Leadership.

Essential Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Claims Examiner II.
  • A minimum of one year of experience handling Hospital/Facility risk claims.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient understanding of DOFR interpretation and the adjudication process for hospital risk claims.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete tasks efficiently while adhering to timelines.
  • Experience in a managed care setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ICD-9, ICD-10, and CPT-4 coding is advantageous.
  • Detail-oriented with the capability to work independently.
