Position Overview
The Event Safety Coordinator (ESC) is responsible for establishing guidelines, protocols, and regulations related to fire and life safety at various events. This role encompasses the overall management of event security and medical services. The ESC will operate under the supervision of the manager while exercising independent judgment and initiative. A flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is essential for this position. The ESC will also support the Assistant Director of Public Safety with additional departmental responsibilities as needed.
Compensation
The salary for this role ranges from $65,000 to $70,000.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the activities of contracted event security and EMS personnel, delegating tasks as necessary.
- Evaluate staffing and security proposals from providers, negotiating changes and granting final approval.
- Suggest modifications to proposals to align with operational policies and guidelines.
- Participate in client site visits and planning meetings before and after events.
- Conduct pre- and post-event inspections, documenting any property damage for management review.
- Address complaints regarding damage, theft, or injury during events, ensuring timely completion of incident reports.
- Authorize incident reports prepared by contract security staff.
- Respond to inquiries from clients and providers regarding security and safety matters.
- Investigate accident or damage sites, taking immediate action to mitigate risks and manage the situation.
- Enforce standards and requirements for all contracted security and medical service providers.
- Identify areas for improvement and collaborate with management to implement operational enhancements.
- Assist in setting departmental goals and objectives for various timeframes.
- Maintain event metrics to inform policy development and future event planning.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Represent the Public Safety Department at industry organizations and community meetings.
To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field.
- Familiarity with the Department of Homeland Security's National Incident Management System (NIMS) and completion of Incident Command System Classes (ICS) 100/200/700.
- Completion of ICS-300 is highly desirable.
- Two years of experience in the Convention Hospitality or Hotel industry.
- Experience or in-depth knowledge of the convention, meetings, exhibition, and trade show sectors.
- Background in event planning.
- Management experience in public safety and security.
- Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations relevant to security operations.
- Knowledge of contemporary security and safety procedures and policies.
- Capacity to establish effective working relationships with government entities, clients, and staff.
- Expertise in planning and coordinating security and safety investigations.
- Understanding of management and supervisory principles.
- Familiarity with the convention and special events industry.
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
- Skill in recognizing emergencies and implementing effective responses.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
- Ability to develop and maintain industry best practices and policies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required. Experience with Ungerboeck event management software is a plus.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- A valid driver's license is required.
- APP, CPP, or PSP certification through ASIS International is highly desirable.
