Job Summary

MaineHealth is seeking a skilled Patient Access Apprentice to join their team. This full-time opportunity requires a 36-hour workweek, with hours needed from Monday to Wednesday, noon to 12:30 a.m.

Key Responsibilities

The Patient Access Apprentice will serve as the first point of contact for patients, conveying a caring and professional attitude to all visitors. They will determine insurance coverage, eligibility, and perform required pre-authorization procedures. Additionally, they will maintain patient care unit control for all bedded units, provide comprehensive financial counseling, and establish and monitor each patient's account prior to their visit, during inpatient stays, and up to 5 days post-discharge.

Requirements

  1. Education: High school graduate or GED preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Health industry experience preferred, with customer service in a clinical setting being a plus.
  4. Able to work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Keyboard and data entry skills are required, with experience in Microsoft Word, e-mail, and internet communication being a plus.
  6. Ability to deal effectively with verbally offensive and/or distressed patients and their families.
  7. Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to learn complex financial formulas.
  8. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of patients, physicians, and staff personnel.
