Job Overview:

The Boeing Space, Intelligence & Weapon Systems (SIWS) division is seeking experienced professionals for the role of Lead Engineer in Avionics and Software Flight Systems. This position is part of the Avionics & Software (AV&SW) Flight Systems team, contributing to groundbreaking projects.

About the Role:

As a Lead Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the Space Launch System (SLS) program, which is recognized as one of the most formidable rockets globally, facilitating deep space exploration missions. Your expertise will be essential in enhancing the capabilities of the Exploration Upper Stage (EUS) as part of the Block 1B SLS Architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electronic hardware tailored for space launch vehicle applications.
  • Engage in avionics assembly design with a focus on:
    • Electrical Power Systems (EPS) – Including power distribution/control and battery design/testing.
    • Command & Data Handling (C&DH) – Focusing on telemetry packaging and routing.
    • Radio Frequency (RF) – Involving transmitter, antenna, and passive component design along with RF link analysis.
    • Guidance, Navigation and Controls (GN&C) – Encompassing GPS and inertial system design.
  • Evaluate project performance by comparing actual results to baseline plans.
  • Provide technical and business leadership for project execution.
  • Document and maintain electronic and electrical system requirements based on customer and contract specifications.
  • Lead the analysis and translation of requirements into system architecture and design specifications.
  • Formulate test plans and procedures, supporting execution of test events.
  • Conduct Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations.
  • Utilize various testing methods to ensure designs meet operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely product delivery.
  • Conduct trade studies and research to inform future product designs.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for contracts and projects.
  • Engage with senior external personnel on significant technical matters.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Work Environment:

This position is expected to be performed onsite. Travel may be required up to 15% of the time.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in electronics design in areas such as EPS, C&DH, RF, or GN&C, varying by level:
    • Associate Level: 1+ years
    • Mid-Level: 3+ years
    • Senior Level: 5+ years

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced degrees in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related fields.
  • Proficiency in power distribution controller design.
  • Experience with analog/digital circuits, firmware, and communication protocols.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Creo Parametric/Windchill.
  • Experience with Printed Wiring Board (PWB) design processes.
