About the Role:
Blue Origin is seeking a highly skilled Avionics Software Engineer to join our Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing sophisticated avionics software systems for space applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop avionics software systems for space applications
- Support proposals and prototype development
- Apply AI and machine learning concepts to enhance system capabilities
- Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to design systems for next-generation spacecraft and satellites
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 7 years of experience in avionics software systems design and development
- Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts
- Experience applying AI in real-world systems
- Strong knowledge of software certification standards (such as DO-178C), real-time operating systems, and embedded systems development
- Ability to design complex software systems and effectively communicate architectural visions
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and challenges with other engineering disciplines to drive effective decisions
- Experience working directly with system and design engineers
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field
- 3 years' experience in a software architecture role
- Proven experience in the space industry working with flight software or satellite systems
- Experience with employing AI in space or avionics applications
- Experience guiding and mentoring engineers
