Job Title: Graduation Candidate Retention Advocate Coordinator

Acceleration Academies is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Graduation Candidate Retention Advocate Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a critical role in supporting students who have disengaged from traditional education and helping them achieve their high school diploma.

Job Summary:

The Graduation Candidate Retention Advocate Coordinator will work closely with our Graduation Candidate Advocates and other staff members to identify and address non-academic barriers that may be preventing students from engaging in their academics. You will be responsible for implementing motivational strategies to ensure students are attending the academy and help identify solutions and resources that will keep them on the path to earning their diploma.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload of students who have not met engagement or course progress expectations
  • Make daily outreach to caseload with a goal of 90% engagement
  • Arrange for coordinated family and adult student meetings each week for students not making satisfactory progress in their course
  • Transfer students between Graduation Candidate Advocates and Graduation Candidate Retention Advocates based on campus retention plans
  • Communicate with students and guardians regarding potential withdrawals if progress or attendance minimums are not being met
  • Work with the registrar to address pending withdrawals and high-risk students
  • Utilize the Graduation Persistence Index (GPI) results to identify potential barriers that would limit academic success and work with the Family and Community Outreach Specialist to eliminate those barriers through coordinated services
  • Conduct home visits to identify attendance barriers and develop a supportive and coordinated family plan to keep students on track for high school graduation
  • Identify community support that leads students toward a high school diploma
  • Create and implement consistent data collection tools for staff use
  • Schedule home visits with the help of Graduation Candidate Retention Advocates and provide documented feedback for each home visit in the appropriate Student Information System (SIS)
  • Work in conjunction with Graduation Candidate Advocates to offer extra support to identified students through the Graduation Candidate Retention Advocate process
  • Create and implement a consistent tracking system to maintain documentation of students identified as needing extra support through the Graduation Candidate Retention Advocate process
  • Consistently evaluate best practices of the position to improve student involvement with the Acceleration Academy program
  • Ensure that students re-engage with the Acceleration Academy program in a timely manner
  • Assist campuses in testing students as necessary
  • Use SIS systems to assist directors in auditing attendance of all students
Requirements:
  • High comfort level with different types of technology
  • Excellent listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships with internal and external constituencies
  • Superior time-management, organizational, and accurate record-keeping skills
  • Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a professional demeanor
  • Ability to develop positive rapport with staff, students, and the community
  • Respects personal privacy and maintains the confidentiality of privileged information
  • Displays ability to diplomatically diffuse tension and deal with intense situations that may arise
  • Demonstrates the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish)
  • Experience in a non-traditional school setting or education-related field
  • Demonstrates a commitment and passion for supporting students who have disengaged from traditional education by creating opportunities for academic and personal breakthroughs
  • Strong understanding of and comfort with the use of technology in an educational setting
  • Experience with providing culturally responsive practices in an effort to engage young adults
