Position Overview

The Policy Manager, Government Affairs will be responsible for generating insights and engaging with member businesses in impactful ways that support and expand the reach of our client's association at the state and federal level. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Packaging & Sustainability & State Affairs and Senior Vice President, Product Policy & Federal Affairs, the Policy Manager will monitor developing policies and regulations and identify opportunities for the association's staff and member companies to streamline state and federal engagement and execute advocacy activities. The Policy Manager will perform administrative tasks to assist in management of the association's Political Action Committee.

Key Areas of Responsibility:Member Engagement
  • Support the creation and distribution of issue-specific information to staff, members, and relevant stakeholders to support government affairs objectives (e.g., research, bill comparisons, FAQ's)
  • Partner with the association's communications team to convey state or federal narratives, as well as industry progress and achievements related to advocacy objectives.
  • Provide support to association's state and federal working groups/committees, including distribution of meeting notices, agendas, summaries and other relevant information. Solicit member company feedback as needed.
  • Develop working knowledge of member company points of contact on state or federal work streams.
Political Engagement
  • Assist in identifying and researching candidates for state or federal support.
  • Assist in preparing internal or external solicitations, educational materials or other materials in support of the association's activities.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing reports, processing invoices, etc.
Monitoring Policy and Industry Issues
  • Work with Public Affairs teams to monitor and assess federal and state legislation, regulations, emerging policies and issues that impact the association's initiatives.
  • Become conversant familiar with the association's priorities and public affairs objectives. Lead conversations and represent the association, as assigned.
  • Identify emerging issues for the industry based on member company and external stakeholder conversations.
  • Analyze industry metrics, achievements, innovation and progress reporting data to identify opportunities for additional advocacy tools or services.
RequirementsExperience & Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, communications, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2-5 years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy.
  • Advocacy or public affairs campaign experience preferred. State / Federal office or federal/state agency experience is a plus.
