Job Overview:

Barnes & Noble College serves as a retail collaborator for numerous educational institutions across the nation. We provide a unique retail atmosphere dedicated to delivering essential academic materials, tools, and merchandise within a vibrant campus environment. Our team engages directly with a diverse clientele, including students, faculty, alumni, and the general public, to ensure exceptional customer service while facilitating the sale or rental of books and various products tailored for the academic community.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Welcome customers and assist them in purchasing trade books, supplies, and managing returns and refunds.
  2. Respond to inquiries regarding general or reference materials, utilizing knowledge of authors and publications to recommend suitable products and services.
  3. Organize, shelve, and categorize inventory according to established criteria.
  4. Maintain a clean and inviting sales floor by regularly tidying merchandise and store areas.
  5. Process sales transactions efficiently, accepting cash, credit, or financial aid payments.

Position Requirements:

Temporary roles necessitate availability for weekly shifts lasting up to 90 days, with potential weekend work and flexible scheduling for various shifts.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regular movement throughout the store to access different departments and products.
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Frequent lifting and occasional reaching, bending, kneeling, and climbing.

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old to qualify for employment.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Possess a high-energy, friendly demeanor with strong communication skills for interacting with a diverse audience.
  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service abilities to connect customers with products that fulfill their needs.
  • Basic skills in mathematics, keyboarding, and data entry are essential.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is important.
