Job Overview

WSP is seeking a Fire Protection & Technical Safety Engineer to support Offshore Wind, Renewable Energy, and Energy Transition initiatives. This role presents a unique opportunity to develop expertise in fire protection while also taking on multi-disciplinary project management responsibilities.

Your Contributions
  • Assess and interpret regulatory standards pertinent to fire safety for offshore wind facilities and substations.
  • Analyze fire hazards and recommend appropriate fire protection strategies tailored for offshore settings.
  • Review and differentiate fire protection codes and standards applicable to both onshore and offshore projects, collaborating with project team members.
  • Engage proactively with both WSP and client teams to establish design basis requirements, striving for consensus on technical challenges to achieve effective solutions.
  • Examine vendor documentation, seek clarifications, and propose alternatives that align with project specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Actively explore new technologies in fire protection by engaging with customers and vendors, aiming to deliver enhanced services through WSP's extensive resources.
  • Commit to workplace safety and adhere to WSP's health, safety, and conduct policies.
  • Serve as the lead engineer for fire protection deliverables.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as required by business demands.
Qualifications

Essential Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in fire protection engineering.
  • Practical knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, including NFPA 850, NFPA 750, NFPA 20, NFPA 25, NFPA 72, NFPA 92, NFPA 2001.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
  • Desire to learn about multi-disciplinary aspects and understand the implications of fire protection in various project contexts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to foster team spirit and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated ethical decision-making in the use of company resources.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety policies.
  • Flexibility to work beyond standard hours as project needs dictate.
  • Willingness to travel as required by project specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a Fire Protection Specialist by NFPA or Professional Engineer Certification, or the ability to obtain such certification within two years.
  • Experience in offshore or large engineering projects utilizing NFPA codes and local fire department regulations.
  • Previous involvement in offshore wind or oil and gas projects with OSHA or BSEE/BOEM compliance.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and understanding client needs in offshore wind energy.
  • Active participation in local professional organizations.
