Role Summary:

The Senior Financial Consultant will undertake intricate accounting responsibilities, including oversight of financial reporting for grants and contracts, budgeting, and billing for designated projects. This role requires the ability to research, comprehend, and implement State and Federal regulations, as well as the agency's policies. Strong analytical and accounting skills are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

Grant and Contract Compliance
  • Understand financial compliance requirements for assigned programs and assist program staff in maintaining adherence.
  • Participate in training sessions to ensure compliance with federal grant regulations.
  • Research eligibility requirements for reporting and expenditures related to each granting agency.
  • Meet all internal and external reporting deadlines.
  • Respond to inquiries from staff and regulatory agencies via phone or written communication.
  • Assist program staff with compliance in cost allocation.
  • Support program audits as needed.
  • Prepare and process invoices for contract reimbursements.
Budget Management
  • Collaborate with the Grants & Contracts Controller and program managers to prepare annual budgets for assigned programs.
  • Develop interim funding budget proposals.
  • Train budget managers on utilizing the financial management system.
  • Conduct quarterly reviews of actual expenditures against budgets and perform variance analysis.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support program staff.
Accounting Practices
  • Prepare and maintain monthly and quarterly financial reports as required by funders and the CFO.
  • Review expense coding and authorization for allowable costs.
  • Prepare journal entries for account corrections and adjustments.
  • Estimate and record monthly revenues.
  • Generate reports from the financial management system.
  • Oversee reconciliation and reporting of data from various software systems.
  • Assist program staff in developing processes to ensure robust financial controls.
Maintain organized documentation related to contracts, billing, financial records, and correspondence with funders.

Additional Duties
Perform other responsibilities as assigned and propose improvements to relevant processes.

Non-Physical Requirements:
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
Experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a nonprofit environment, particularly with federal contracts.
  • Experience in contract billing and budget preparation is preferred.
Special Skills
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting systems, spreadsheet design, and database management.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

Licensure, Registration, Certification
  • Valid driver's license and minimum required liability insurance.
