Job Overview

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Observe and manage consumer behavior while implementing behavior management strategies. Ensure all actions are documented appropriately.
  2. Record all activities and incidents during shifts in the log and within the consumer management system.
  3. Prepare programmatic and statistical reports as needed.
  4. Ensure the safety, cleanliness, and overall appearance of the residence. Conduct regular inspections of all areas and equipment, addressing minor repairs or notifying supervisors of significant issues.
  5. Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, management, and external agencies.
  6. Be aware of consumer locations at all times and adhere to all agency policies and procedures, including medication administration, key control, and emergency protocols.
  7. Promptly notify the appropriate personnel of any issues or unusual occurrences, completing incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  8. Implement and comply with all policies and legal commitments to consumers as mandated by relevant state and federal agencies.
  9. Fulfill assigned responsibilities and report on them during staff meetings as required.
  10. Act as an advocate and positive role model for consumers, treating them with respect and dignity.
  11. Assist consumers with personal hygiene as necessary.
  12. Document all activities related to the welfare of the home or consumers, including:
    1. Movement of consumers or visitors to and from the residence.
    2. Unusual incidents involving consumers, staff, or others affecting the home.
    3. Medical emergencies, including seizures and medication administration.
    4. Notable changes in consumer behavior, whether positive or negative.
  13. Administer medications according to each consumer's schedule and agency guidelines.
  14. Organize and facilitate activities or programs for consumers during each shift, ensuring engagement based on their interests and needs.
  15. Provide support and counseling to assigned consumers to address their progress and concerns.
  16. Assist in safely transporting residents to community activities and events.
  17. Be knowledgeable of and follow emergency procedures for various incidents affecting residents.
  18. Support guardians and families in understanding and implementing person-centered planning principles.
  19. Report any violations of individual rights to the Executive Director or designated personnel and participate in investigations as directed.
  20. Assist with meal preparation and clean-up duties as needed.
  21. Engage in professional development opportunities and provide training to agency staff as required. Actively participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  22. Possess a thorough understanding of agency policies and procedures.
  23. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Residential Manager or upper management.
  24. Follow behavior support plans and document accordingly.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Residential Support Specialist is accountable for overseeing daily consumer supervision and program operations, ensuring accurate tracking of consumer progress. This role implements all agency policies and procedures related to consumer safety and welfare, fostering a fun, safe, and healthy environment.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  2. A minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses is preferred. Educational experience may substitute for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  3. A valid driver's license and the ability to be insured by the agency's insurance provider are necessary. Travel may be required using agency or personal vehicles.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
  5. Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
  6. Physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds and assist individuals as needed.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Residential Support Specialist reports directly to the Residential Manager or an appointed representative.
