About the Position

The County of Alameda is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will play a critical role in maintaining public safety and enforcing laws in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect crime, enforce laws, and maintain order.
  • Respond to emergency calls, provide assistance, and make arrests as necessary.
  • Conduct investigations, gather evidence, and testify in court as required.
  • Provide support to other law enforcement agencies and participate in community outreach programs.
  • Perform administrative tasks, such as writing reports and maintaining records.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 18 months of experience as a Deputy Sheriff I in the Alameda County classified Service or equivalent experience in a law enforcement agency.
  • California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic certificate required.
  • Valid California State Motor Vehicle Operator's license by date of appointment.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field, such as criminal justice or law enforcement.
  • Experience in a law enforcement agency, particularly in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Fluency in a second language, such as Spanish or Mandarin.
