Position Summary

The role of the Public Benefits Navigator is crucial in assisting patients and residents of DC, MD, and VA with navigating health insurance and public benefits eligibility, enrollment, and understanding. This position connects individuals to essential programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and Qualified Health Plans, as well as subsidies and other public benefits. The Navigator will develop technical knowledge and client counseling skills, working under the guidance of the Legal Services program while being part of a dedicated Insurance Navigation Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold the mission and values of Whitman-Walker Health, demonstrating dignity, respect, and compassion in all interactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service by understanding and addressing client needs.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, particularly regarding confidentiality and data protection.
  • Maintain accurate records and utilize appropriate tools to support case management.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the organization.

Specific Duties:

  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external partners to facilitate smooth application processes.
  • Manage client cases in the Legal Server system, tracking progress until resolution.
  • Conduct outreach and provide education to consumers seeking insurance options.
  • Assist clients in exploring various insurance and public benefit options, including Medicaid, Medicare Savings Programs, and SNAP.
  • Participate in annual enrollment periods, supporting clients' medication needs through legal services.
  • Guide clients through the application process, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and submitted accurately.
  • Advocate for clients with government agencies as needed, ensuring their rights and options are clearly communicated.
  • Update client information in electronic systems as required.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet objectives.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and healthcare policies.
  • Experience in healthcare, social services, or a related field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the needs of diverse communities, particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS.
