Scope of Role

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is tasked with leveraging engineering principles to plan and develop tools, methodologies, processes, and equipment that enhance the quality of the final product in the most effective, efficient, and economical manner.

This position may be aligned with either Assembly or Machining operations and reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure the quality of machined components and finished assemblies by identifying, assessing, and resolving production, process, and quality challenges.

Analyze, strategize, and design the layout of workspaces, equipment, resources, and production techniques to meet customer expectations and achieve internal takt attainment objectives.

Propose enhancements for worker efficiency and waste reduction by striving for True North, restructuring job responsibilities, reorganizing workflows, and relocating workstations and equipment to support one-piece flow where applicable.

Lead, coordinate, and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives, kaizen events, and cost-saving projects.

Engage in daily walk-around review meetings on the shop floor and drive problem-solving activities utilizing RBS tools.

Prepare estimates for the implementation of process enhancements, including labor, equipment, material costs, and assembly capabilities.

Oversee and coordinate equipment acquisition, installation, or modification projects, including the preparation of CAPEX documents, project budgets, and timelines.

Collaborate with vendors to determine product specifications for equipment, materials, or components and evaluate products based on production requirements and quality standards.

Create and validate programs (as necessary) for CNC (computer numerical control) machines and/or robotic and testing equipment.

Design workflows, workstations, and work cells in compliance with safety, environmental, and ergonomic standards.

Develop, maintain, and enhance production routings to provide clear and necessary work instructions to production associates, focusing on improving quality and reducing product costs.

Provide leadership, technical guidance, and training for manufacturing personnel on new assembly and/or machining procedures.

Represent the company in technical discussions with external vendors and/or customers as needed. Travel may be required to observe new methods, attend trade shows or workshops, and conduct customer visits and repairs.

Assist with work measurement programs and analyze work samples to establish standards for labor utilization.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and performing complex mathematical calculations.

Strong analytical skills to identify the need for modifications in procedures or processes, determine root causes, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Excellent interpersonal skills that promote teamwork and collaboration, fostering high-quality working relationships to influence, gain support, and achieve results.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to production associates and address inquiries.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle proprietary and sensitive information with integrity.

Intermediate proficiency with CAD and MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Basic understanding of finance, capital appropriations, and budgeting practices, with the ability to learn to perform manufacturing analysis and estimate costs of labor, equipment, materials, and assembly capabilities.

Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 10% for visits to other sites, vendor and/or customer meetings, training events, and trade shows.

Education and Experience Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is required.

Education or training in CNC Machining, robotics, and/or testing equipment is preferred.

3+ years of engineering experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or machining environment with a proven track record of implementing process or product improvements is required.

Previous experience with products having tolerances less than 0.0005" is preferred.

Experience with turning, milling, and grinding processes is advantageous.

Familiarity with gear design (hobbing, skiving, and grinding) is a plus.

Prior experience with mechanical assembly, product testing, and electromechanical power transmission technology and applications is desirable.

Experience utilizing advanced quality tools and/or lean manufacturing concepts is beneficial.

Physical Demands

Potential physical demands include, but are not limited to, frequent sitting and occasional bending and stooping.

Potential sensory demands include hearing and vision.

Ability to lift and/or maneuver up to 30 pounds without assistance, or heavier loads with the aid of a lifting device for setting up test equipment.

Must be capable of working in a typical manufacturing facility and traveling domestically, which may involve walking, climbing, and moving around operational equipment.

Work Environment

The majority of time is spent in a manufacturing production environment where personal protective safety equipment must be worn, and proper safety precautions must be observed.
