Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist to join our team at Broward County Florida. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting and financial tasks, including payroll processing, accounts payable, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process biweekly payroll and timekeeping for the Transportation Department.
  • Process weekly Workers Compensation Wage Statements.
  • Process invoices to Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1267 for reimbursement of union business performed on a biweekly basis.
  • Ensure that federal, state, and local payroll laws are followed.
  • Ensure compliance of all County Human Resources (HR) and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) pay policies/rules.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to ensure that all employee schedule changes are loaded in timekeeping system.
  • Calculate and prepare biweekly timecard adjustments with supporting documents for any payroll corrections needed.
  • Communicate information to the Transit Division regarding payroll updates.
  • Review calculations for annual accruals for Amalgamated Transit Union.
  • Review employee eligibility for requested cashouts and computer purchases.
  • Prepare documentation for recording payroll during emergency situations.
  • Serve as a Liaison between the Transportation Department, Central Payroll, and the Human Resources Division.
  • Calculate final payouts for employee separations (retirement, resignation, or termination).
  • Prepare documentation archiving in accordance with County and State Record Retention Policies.
  • Research and resolve Transportation Department payroll inquiries, including communicating resolution of discrepancies to appropriate persons.
Requirements
  • Requires two (2) years of experience in bookkeeping, payroll or closely related experience.
  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Government Finance Officer Certification.
  • HR-Payroll Professional Certification.
  • Certified Payroll Professional Certification.
  • One or more years of experience working with Timekeeping Payroll System (ERP).
  • One or more years Transportation, Public, or Mass Transit Accounts Payable experience.
  • One or more years union contract payroll experience.
  • One or more years Workers' Compensation experience.
  • One or more years FMLA experience.
Work Environment

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced environment with a team of professionals. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
