South San Francisco, California, United States Alumis Full time
Position Overview

Salary: Competitive

Alumis Inc is dedicated to revolutionizing the treatment landscape for patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. Despite significant advancements in recent years, many individuals with immunologic conditions still face challenges – our mission is to fundamentally improve their health outcomes.

We are in search of a seasoned medical expert to take on the role of Consulting Neurologist in Clinical Development, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Clinical Development. This position is expected to require approximately 5-10 hours per week. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in propelling our A-005 clinical initiative through Phase 1 and launching the Phase 2 program focused on multiple sclerosis. You will be instrumental in the strategic planning, execution, and oversight of the MS program, working collaboratively with cross-functional teams to provide clinical and scientific guidance in the development of A-005, a pioneering CNS-penetrant, oral, allosteric TYK-2 inhibitor aimed at treating neurological disorders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a senior representative and advocate for Alumis within the field of Neurology.
  • Lead the management and supervision of Phase 1 and 2 clinical trials involving A-005.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key opinion leaders and external stakeholders to enhance clinical development initiatives and boost company visibility.
  • Influence cross-functional teams across Research, Biomarkers, Medical Affairs, Commercial, Regulatory, and Business Development as a recognized authority in Neurology and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMID).
  • Design and implement clinical studies and collaborative initiatives.
  • Provide strategic insights and execute clinical strategies throughout early and late-stage development programs.
  • Work closely with early development teams to identify opportunities for scientific exploration, including new indications and extensions for molecules in the development pipeline.
  • Collaborate with Business Development colleagues on due diligence efforts that support both early and late-stage development partnerships, as well as co-development opportunities with external organizations.
  • Mentor, manage, and inspire team members to achieve organizational objectives through a collaborative and entrepreneurial approach.
  • Uphold the highest standards of integrity and scientific inquiry in drug development.
  • Partner with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) to oversee medical monitoring for the Phase 2 program.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • MD or equivalent with board certification or eligibility in Neurology, possessing over 5 years of drug development experience within a mid to large biopharmaceutical organization, specifically leading a development program in multiple sclerosis.
  • Experience in clinical development extending to Phase 1 trials with small molecules.
  • Recognized R&D expert with the credibility to engage with Key Opinion Leaders, external health organizations, and regulatory bodies in Neurology.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, evidenced by managing personnel within a pharmaceutical or clinical/academic setting.
  • Ability to effectively interact in a cross-functional environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, influencing, presentation, and communication skills (both written and verbal) to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in assessing, understanding, and communicating evolving medical and scientific information, along with knowledge of commercial dynamics affecting drug development.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners to achieve organizational goals.
  • Effective negotiation skills that enable influence without direct authority.
  • Proven track record of strategic, organizational, and executional skills to support project planning across multiple initiatives, with the ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Ability to work across diverse teams in a matrixed organizational structure, both as a leader and as a team member.
  • Organized approach to deliverables with meticulous attention to detail, capable of meeting deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of autonomy.
