About the Role:

We are looking for a passionate and skilled leader in peptide chemistry to join our dynamic discovery research team. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in the design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel peptides and peptide conjugates aimed at developing next-generation therapeutic options. Your advanced synthetic expertise and proven track record will play a crucial role in advancing our projects. Your Contributions (include, but are not limited to):
  • Direct projects and teams towards defined objectives, ultimately leading to the nomination of clinical candidate peptides.
  • Design, synthesize, and characterize peptides, small proteins, and chemically-modified analogs utilizing cutting-edge synthesis, bioconjugation, purification, analytical, and biophysical methodologies.
  • Conduct independent, data-driven optimization of peptide structure-activity relationships (SAR).
  • Effectively communicate scientific rationale, results, and interpretations during project, team, and departmental meetings, contributing to strategic discussions.
  • Collaborate actively and share expertise with colleagues across various functions.
  • Establish and enhance professional relationships both internally and externally.
  • Assist in the recruitment of peptide group scientists.
  • Potentially manage junior scientists in the future.
Requirements:

• PhD in organic chemistry or a related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial environment.

• Expertise in all facets of modern peptide synthesis, protein bioconjugation, and peptide/protein purification and analysis.

• Proven experience in optimizing and delivering peptide-protein conjugates for clinical trials.

• Strong publication record demonstrating scientific accomplishments.

• In-depth understanding of peptide and protein structures, along with biophysical techniques to evaluate stability and behavior in solution.

• Experience in bioconjugation and formulation strategies for peptides and proteins.

• Commitment to maintaining a strong laboratory presence alongside design and planning activities.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication capabilities.

• Demonstrated understanding of cross-functional drug development processes.

• Ability to assimilate data and research findings from external sources for application to new scientific initiatives.

• Advanced knowledge and demonstrated proficiency with various laboratory equipment and tools.

• Prioritizes teamwork and collaboration.

• Exhibits leadership skills and the ability to guide lower-level and/or indirect teams.

• Strong computer, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

• Ability to see the broader impact on multiple programs, teams, and departments.

• Capacity to meet multiple deadlines across various projects with high accuracy and efficiency.
