Senior Vocational Nurse - Neurology Specialist

Department: Neurology - Epilepsy Center

Job Summary:

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) employs the nursing process to evaluate and recognize the unique needs of patients through careful observation of symptoms, emotional well-being, laboratory findings, cultural background, and responses to medical treatments. Under the supervision of the RN Navigator, the LVN will assist in reviewing new patient referrals, managing provider communications, and facilitating patient rooming as necessary.

This role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, utilized daily through various channels including phone, electronic communication, mail, and in-person interactions with both internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency in computer systems such as Apex and other UCSF digital platforms is essential. The LVN is expected to uphold the standards of practice policies and procedures, maintain current knowledge of pharmacology, and demonstrate compliance with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center protocols regarding infection control, safety, and clinical practices. Adherence to the Telephone and House Standards as established by the Medical Center, along with embodying UCSF's PRIDE values and AIDET communication fundamentals in all patient care interactions, is mandatory.

Salary Information:

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is influenced by various factors including work experience and internal equity within this classification at UCSF. For union-represented positions, salary placement will follow the collective bargaining agreement guidelines.

Salary Range: $57.83 (Hourly Rate)

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in Epilepsy as a Medical Assistant/LVN
  • Essential knowledge and skills for effective performance in this role, including outstanding communication abilities, problem-solving skills, and adaptability to new technologies
  • Basic computer and typing skills
  • Prior experience with electronic health records
  • Demonstrated capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Spanish, Chinese, or Russian
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of relevant experience in a similar setting
  • Experience in Neurology

Licensure/Certification:

  • Active Licensed Vocational Nurse license in California
  • Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
