Job Overview

Position Summary

As a Plasma Collection Specialist, you will play a crucial role in the precise and timely handling of plasma gathered from donors.

Key Responsibilities


1. Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), you will be responsible for the collection of plasma samples and the transfer of plasma units to freezing storage to maintain product integrity.


2. Ensure that plasma units are stored correctly in accordance with SOPs, including the management of unsuitable plasma units and samples.


3. Verify the accuracy of unit labeling by ensuring that the pre-printed label corresponds with the dynamic label.


4. Employ sterile techniques to collect samples and utilize a heat sealer to guarantee the sterility and quality of plasma unit samples as per SOPs.


5. May be tasked with ensuring that samples and units are packaged and dispatched in compliance with SOPs and organizational procedures. Responsible for preparing shipping and disposal documentation.


6. Monitor the temperatures of freezers and refrigerators, promptly notifying the appropriate personnel if any equipment malfunctions. Document any variances.


7. Conduct daily calibration of equipment following SOPs.


8. Accurately record donor information in the electronic donor information management system as outlined in the SOPs.


9. Understand the policies and procedures related to hyper immune programs at the center, if applicable.


10. Maintain a clean and efficient workspace, ensuring that adequate operating supplies and forms are available as needed. Adhere to all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures, promoting safety in all actions.


11. Uphold the confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.


12. May receive cross-training in other areas to fulfill business needs.


13. Bilingual skills may be required at the discretion of the organization to meet business demands.


14. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience

  • Preferred minimum of three (3) months of experience in a laboratory or warehouse environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic math skills are essential.
Working Conditions

  • Ability to comprehend, retain, and apply both oral and written instructions.
  • Must be able to interact with customers and observe equipment operations.
  • Occasionally required to perform tasks while standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Must possess a high level of manual dexterity, with the ability to reach, bend, and kneel.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, and blood-borne pathogens is frequent.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required during specific tasks or in designated areas.
  • Willingness to work overtime and extended hours to support operational needs.
