HPC User Support Specialist

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is seeking a highly skilled HPC User Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Advanced Computing Operations team, you will provide front-line support for the High-Performance Computing user community, including scientists, researchers, and students at various levels of education and experience.

Your responsibilities will include responding to technical support requests, documenting customer issues, communicating service information to users, and recording actions using ticketing systems. You will also manage multi-factor authentication tokens, authorization, and safeguarding data, as well as assisting clients as needed.

Additionally, you will provide HPC job scheduling support using tools such as Moab, Torque, PBS, and Slurm, troubleshoot and compile from source code on Linux-based systems, and maintain documentation by ensuring that the latest processes and forms are available to the user community.

You will also compile a list of publications generated by projects utilizing Advanced Computing resources, solicit principal investigators and Project Leads for Annual Progress Reports and other required deliverables, and regular and ad hoc reporting as required by gathering usage metrics and tracking project requests.

Monitor and report progress towards the completion of projects and deliverables, and retrieve, organize, and report data to assist the operations group and stakeholders in reaching meaningful conclusions and making business decisions.

Some experience creating reports in visual formats and an ability to analyze data, particularly in Microsoft Excel, is required. Working knowledge and experience with Linux, Windows, and Mac end-user computers, strong familiarity with the Linux command line and SSH, and familiarity compiling applications on Linux systems are also necessary.

This is a full-time position that requires a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent education and experience. The anticipated closing window for application submission is up to 30 days and may be extended as needed.
