Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM - 8:00 AM and 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM, across various educational facilities in the region.

Position Overview: Under the guidance of the Site Leader and/or Extension Coordinator, the primary role of this position is to assist in the effective management of year-round programs for school-aged children. During the academic year, this role functions as a Site Assistant in our Before & After School initiatives and transitions to a Camp Counselor during the summer months. The individual will have a comprehensive understanding of the YMCA's philosophy, operational procedures, and group dynamics, and will embody a commitment to character development as the central mission of the YMCA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain current CPR/AED certifications and other mandatory training.
  • Support the execution of weekly lesson plans and educational curricula.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times.
  • Foster positive relationships with participants, parents, school staff, and the community using effective communication skills.
  • Participate in all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist in providing meals and snacks to participants.
  • Keep all program areas safe, organized, and clean.
  • Address conflicts and disciplinary matters with participants appropriately.
  • Arrive punctually with the required uniform and a positive demeanor.
  • Uphold a professional representation of the YMCA within the facility and the broader community.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow YMCA staff members.
  • Enforce the YMCA Code of Conduct and adhere to all guidelines outlined in the staff training manual.
  • Report incidents using the designated forms to Coordinators and Directors.
  • Flexibility to change school sites or travel as necessary.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Expected Outcomes:

A successful Extension Assistant will contribute to a well-managed program that positively impacts children by instilling values of kindness, integrity, respect, and accountability. The program will be perceived by parents and the community as a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment. All facilities, activities, and events will be adequately supervised and staffed to ensure high-quality programming.

Supervisory Role: Responsible for overseeing all participants in the Extension program.

Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is required. Prior experience working with youth is preferred.

Language Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence. Capable of effectively communicating in front of groups of parents, students, and staff.

Certifications: CPR/AED certification for all age groups, Bloodborne Pathogens training, Child Abuse Prevention training, and completion of a Medical Exam and TB Test.

Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills are essential.

Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
