Position Classification & Hour Requirements:
- Full-Time Non-Exempt
- 40 hours per week position

This role is integral to the mission of the Y, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Lead Early Childhood Educator will collaborate closely with Preschool Leadership to ensure effective execution of lesson plans and curriculum, while overseeing daily classroom operations and maintaining appropriate student-to-teacher ratios.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensures the safety and well-being of program participants at all times, addressing their individual educational, developmental, protective, and nurturing needs.
- Exemplifies relationship-building skills in all interactions. Cultivates and sustains collaborative relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Maintains consistent, clear, and concise communication within the scope of responsibility. Responsible for organizing and conducting parent/teacher conferences.
- Oversees classroom management, including monitoring and utilizing classroom supplies; supervising students and activity areas; gathering information to assess each student; and developing and implementing classroom curriculum, activities, or events.
- Stays informed about and complies with Rule 407 licensing standards, ensuring all licensing and regulatory requirements are met in the assigned classroom.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Responsible for supervising program participants and acting as a primary responder in emergencies. Assists in supervising and delegating tasks to Preschool Assistants and/or volunteers, which includes training staff; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing concerns and resolving issues.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age of 19.
- At least one year of relevant experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 60 semester hours of college credit with 6 hours in Early Childhood Education/Child Development -OR- a CDA.
- Meets and maintains all State and licensing requirements.
- Within 3 months of hire, completion of CPR, First Aid, AED for infants, children, and adults, Bloodborne Pathogens, and Illinois Harassment training.
- Within 6 months, completion of Food Handler certification.
- Ability to effectively relate to diverse groups from all social and economic backgrounds.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee regularly works in outdoor weather conditions and may occasionally be required to be in a pool.
- The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, but can often be loud.
